How to Choose the Right Golf Car for You

Golf carts are more than just for golf these days. You’ll often see them scooting around warehouses, hotels, education and medical facilities – anywhere with extensive grounds really.

As well as being an economical alternative to hiring a cart for people who play golf regularly, golf and utility vehicles make it easy and convenient to travel around large private or commercial areas. As the uses for golf carts have expanded, the term “golf and utility vehicles” has grown to encompass golf cars, commercial utility vehicles, industrial utility vehicles, hospitality vehicles and more. They cover a wide range of purposes, and the type of vehicle you need will be very specific to your particular requirements.

Best Golf Carts and Buggies in Perth

But in terms of choosing the right golf car for actually playing golf, consider the following tips for choosing the right buggy for you.

Where will I store it?

This will affect the type of golf cart you can choose, but it’s also good to be aware of any security issues that might be a threat in the storage area – whether it’s at home, work or on the course. Make sure your cart will be secure and do whatever you can to deter theft, unauthorised usage or damage.  You may consider a wheel lock or a unique key made for your cart if the manufacturer only provides a universal key that fits all of their golf buggies.

What are the golf course guidelines?

If you intend to use your golf car on a golf course, check the course’s private usage guidelines for golf carts. Every course will have different restrictions on private carts, so it is important to clarify the guidelines with the course manager or pro-shop before you make a purchase.

Petrol or electric golf carts?

Both petrol and electric golf cars have their advantages and disadvantages. Electric carts are quieter, provide a smoother ride and are more cost-effective to run over the life of the vehicle, however they will not endure multiple 18-hole rounds without being charged up. They also require mains electricity to be available to plug in and recharge after each use. Petrol golf carts are more costly to run, but easily endure multiple rounds of golf without needing a petrol re-fill. Petrol carts are generally best for people who have limited or no mains power within their storage area.

What features will I need?

Consider the way in which you play golf.  If you are a serious golfer, you may want to include a club and ball washer that makes it easy to maintain the face of your club and golf ball whilst on the course.  If you consider golf as more of a social outing, consider an Esky to keep your drinks cold during the round.  Accessories and Options very much depend on the individual person, so have a think about what is important to you when playing the game.

Will a pre-owned golf car do the job?

Pre-owned vehicles can be a more economical investment for some buyers, whereas new carts are more expensive but you have a much longer warranty period. It’s a good idea to make sure that your golf car supplier provides warranty on their pre-owned carts because repairs can be expensive in some cases.  All of our pre-owned golf and utility vehicles are subject to rigorous reconditioning and testing procedure to ensure complete confidence in their quality. At ADH, we always offer a conditional parts and labour warranty on all of our pre-owned vehicles.  Unfortunately, most golf car suppliers do not.
